2012 Dodge Caliber a variety of “C-segment” vehicles

Various sources indicate the 2012 Dodge Caliber will be built on Fiat’s C-Evo platform, a new architecture that can be varied to host a variety of “C-segment” vehicles. This means the new Caliber will compare to compact cars and crossover SUVs of the same general size as the Ford Focus and new 2011 Chevrolet Cruze. Aimed to compete with the new Audi A1 and BMW 1 Series, the platform uses 84 percent high and ultrahigh strength steel, a McPherson front and a dual-link rear suspension, both of which will use aluminum components (front and rear arms, along with the crossmember).
The platform comes in around 10 percent lighter than its predecessor thanks to the use of aluminum and magnesium, and is designed to fit a transverse engine and can be adapted for either front- or all-wheel drive applications.

The 2012 Caliber's interior will likely use many Fiat-designed parts

The 2012 Caliber's interior will likely use many Fiat-designed parts, yielding higher interior materials quality. The 2009 Fiat Linea is shown here as an example.
The current generation Caliber has been a distant competitor in the compact-car sales race, hampered by unrefined powertrains, choppy ride quality, excessive noise, and visibly cut-rate interiors. Being a Chrysler product hasn’t helped either, what with the company’s reputation for mediocre workmanship and dealer service now further tainted by a well-publicized slide into bankruptcy. While the 2012 Dodge Caliber promises to be far better than the car it replaces, it must overcome some huge hurdles to improve Chrysler’s image and thus public confidence in the automaker’s future. Which means that it will have to be nothing short of brilliant, a tall order even for vaunted Chrysler-Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne and his teams on both sides of the Atlantic.

The 2012 Dodge Caliber will be powered by a Fiat-designed

The 2012 Dodge Caliber will be powered by a Fiat-designed 1.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with the Italian company’s advanced MultiAir valve-control system. This powerplant debuts in the BMW Mini-fighting Alfa Romeo MiTo 2-door hatchback that’s due to start U.S. sale for model-year 2011. MultiAir is the big deal here. Basically, it uses valve lifters operated by an electrohydraulic mechanism that can adjust valve timing and valve lift through virtually infinite steps for each cylinder and at each stage of the four-stroke combustion cycle. This contrasts with electromechanical systems like Honda’s VTEC that vary timing and/or lift for all valves through only two or three fixed modes. Fiat claims MultiAir improves fuel economy by 10-15 percent over a conventional engine of comparable size while increasing power by a like amount. The company also touts a 15-25 percent reduction in CO2 emissions and a 60-percent drop in levels of hydrocarbons and NOx (oxides of nitrogen).
According to Britain’s Autocar magazine, the 1.4 turbo engine will initially be available in various markets with rated horsepower of 105, 135, and 170. The North American 2012 Dodge Caliber will probably get only the last two versions, with the 170-horse engine possibly reserved for a sporty R/T model. Transmission choices are unclear, but Autocar says the engine is compatible with Fiat’s existing 5- and 6-speed manual gearboxes. It is a fair guess that the options list will show a 6-speed automated manual, something Chrysler had planned to offer before production was stalled by its government-ordered bankruptcy and a supplier dispute.

2012 Dodge Caliber will be fashioned by Chrysler designers

The 2012 Dodge Caliber may be a restyled version of corporate partner Fiat's Linea compact car

Designed for both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, C-Evo gets its first outing with the 2011 Alfa Romeo Milano, a sporty 4-door hatchback from the Fiat-owned upscale brand famous for sports cars. The all-new Caliber will reportedly be sold only as a 4-door sedan similar in design to the Fiat Linea, unlike today’s Caliber, but we think a hatchback might be reinstated at some point to attract younger “active lifestyle” buyers that covet the likes of the Kia Soul, Nissan Cube, and Scion xB. Whatever the body style is produced, all models should be front-wheel drive.
Styling for the 2012 Dodge Caliber will be fashioned by Chrysler designers in Auburn Hills, Michigan, with possibly some input from Fiat’s team in Turin. Interior design should also be unique despite using a number of Fiat-designed parts, and we’d guess materials quality will go up another notch from the upgraded 2010 Caliber cabin.

the 2011 Dodge Caliber is interior tops the list of owner positives

The interior tops the list of owner positives in the 2011 Dodge Caliber, and sadly it’s a very short list.
Weak, harsh engines, clunky and unresponsive transmissions and an overall lack of visibility severely hamper the overall experience of the 2011 Caliber.

It’s the base-level Express trim that really gets the shaft this year, missing out on the electronic steering system revisions as well as newly standard stability control. Heat and Rush trim levels also get thicker rear anti-roll bars as well as retuned shocks. All but the Rush get a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder standard engine, with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder being optional in the Uptown and Standard in the Rush. The Express trim gets a five-speed manual as the only option, while Heat and Rush trims get the option of a continuously variable transmission (CVT) that comes standard in the Mainstreet and Uptown trims.

Body lean is combated well in the Caliber, with confident stability exhibited in smooth corners--Sadly, road noise, wheel noise and especially engine noise disrupt all of this, intruding violently into the cabin.
It has been three years since the initial launching of the Caliber model in the market. Moving over to the engine power, the "2011 Dodge Caliber" is built with a 1.8-liter engine for its base that is coupled with a five-speed manual transmission system as the base option. Pro’s of 2011 Dodge Caliber
2011 Caliber comes with decent fuel economy rating;
-It has a full range of interior features;
-Adaptive driving mechanism to suit any driving situation;
-Dodge 2011 Caliber has met and complied all safety regulations while also earning impressive score on all crash tests.
The 2011 Dodge Caliber is available in trims: Express, Heat, Mainstreet, Uptown, and Rush.
For a crossover/hatchback, the 2011 Dodge Caliber receives excellent fuel economy ratings of 22-24 mpg in the city and 27-32 mpg on the highway. Competing with Toyota Matrix, the 2011 Dodge Caliber sits on standard 15-inch steel wheels, while 17-inch painted aluminum and 18-inch aluminum or chrome-clad wheels are optional.

The 2011 Dodge Caliber seats five occupants in standard cloth or optional leather-trimmed seats.

Other features vary by trim level, and include keyless entry, iPod controls, an audio input jack for mobile devices, leather-trimmed seats, beverage-cooling bin, six-way power driver’s seat, and satellite radio. A voice-activated navigation and audio system (Uconnect), sunroof, heated front seats, and a six-disc CD changer are also available as options.

2012 Dodge Caliber remaining plants in North America

A redesigned Dodge Caliber compact car is near the top of the to-do list for the new Chrysler Group LLC and its Italian partner, Fiat Auto. The replacement, which may get a new name, is expected to start sale in calendar 2011 as an early 2012 model, timing that would make it the American automaker's first post-bankruptcy product to reach consumers. Despite dual design citizenship, the new compact will be produced at one of Chrysler's remaining plants in North America, though the choice is apparently not decided yet.

Various sources indicate the 2012 Dodge Caliber will be built on Fiat's C-Evo platform, a new architecture that can be varied somewhat in length and width to host a variety of "C-segment" vehicles, meaning compact cars and crossover SUVs of the same general size as the Ford Focus and new 2011 Chevrolet Cruze. Designed for both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, C-Evo gets its first outing with the 2011 Alfa Romeo Milano, a sporty 4-door hatchback from the Fiat-owned upscale brand famous for sports cars. The new Caliber will reportedly be sold only as a 4-door sedan, unlike Milano and today's Caliber, but we think a hatchback might be reinstated at some point to woo younger "active lifestyle" buyers attracted to the likes of the Kia Soul, Nissan Cube, and Scion xB. Whatever the body styles, all models should be front-wheel drive.

the compact Dodge Caliber will be substantially renovated in 2012

Chrysler Dodge, the Italian car maker Fiat and connected to the compact Caliber will be substantially renovated in 2012. The soft and gentle Caliber’s presence was in 2011 and is the first example of what such cooperation can be created later. The prominent change can profitably used C-Evo will be the body of Fiat. trembled a problem with the past fall Caliber platform developed a loud, shocking experience while driving.

The brand-new body consists of ultra high strength material, and the trip with the dual-link front and rear axles 2012 Dodge Caliber will be smoothed. A powerful, versatile base is the crucial thing for respected automotive structures. While showing off in front of a hatchback model, 4 door sedan not the only alternative. The body will be checked with a pair of stylish European refinements, developing a similar turn to the lower, leaner Fiat Linea.

It is probably modest Fiat, but then after a successful 1.4-liter 4-cylinder turbo engine that MultiAir a valve control. This particular technology is valve lift at any stage of combustion. Fiat says that the technology improves fuel economy and performance are no less than 10%. In the United States are the engines of 135 hp and 170 are offered

The standard transmission is certainly the current 6-speed, but also a 6-speed automatic manual is also in the 2012 Dodge Caliber is available. These types of gear to work in concentrated Symphony with the torque of the small motorcycle.

The rear of the Dodge can also undergo sporty modifications: The custom-tailored STARTECH lift-gate attachment continues the bullish contour of the rear fascia over the entire width of the rear. The rear fascia with stylized tailpipes left and right gives the Caliber a more powerful look. The fascia can be complemented with the STARTECH sport exhaust system. The rear spoiler is attached to the liftgate and stylishly rounds out the STARTECH designer suit

For the Dodge Caliber 2.0 CRD with common-rail turbodiesel engine STARTECH offers powerful and reliable power tuning that ups power output by 40 hp / 29.4 kW. The STARTECH SD3 performance kit consists of a plug-and-play control module that can be installed by any authorized Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge dealer in half an hour, thanks to an included custom wire harness. Like the production models the STARTECH-tuned Dodge Caliber 2.0 CRD meets EURO IV emission limits.

With STARTECH SD3 tuning peak power output of the 2.0-liter common-rail four cylinder engine with Diesel particulate filter jumps from standard 140 hp / 103 kW to 180 hp / 132 kW at just 4,000 rpm. Even more important for everyday driving is the increase in peak torque from 310 Nm to 360 Nm between 1,750 and 2,500 rpm. Thus equipped sprint time from 0 - 100 km/h is shortened from 9.3 to 8.6 seconds. Top speed of the tuned Caliber diesel model increases to 201 km/h.

Dodge Caliber 2.0 CRD with common-rail turbodiesel engine

To add more sporty emphasis to the characteristic appearance of the Dodge Caliber the STARTECH designers have developed an aerodynamic-enhancement kit that adds to the compact car's striking design.

The STARTECH front fascia not only visually upgrades the front; it also reduces lift on the front axle. The sides are given a more homogenous appearance with the STARTECH side body cladding that gives the Caliber a lower and sleeker appearance.

The rear spoiler is attached to the liftgate and stylishly rounds out the STARTECH designer suit.

2011 the Dodge Caliber Sporty Design and Engine

As promised last year, Chrysler Group tuning specialist Startech presented a full-blown version of the Dodge Caliber. So apart from the 2.0 CRD engine upgrade which raises output to 180Hp from 140 thus dropping sprint time from 0 - 100 km/h (62mph) from 9.3 to 8.6 seconds, customers can now add to their shopping list an aerodynamic-bodykit along with numerous customization options for the interior. We’ll give kudos to Startech for managing to give a sporty look to the Caliber without going overboard.

the Dodge Caliber occurred for 2010

A key change to the Caliber occurred for 2010, as Dodge addressed the rather deplorable interior quality previously found in the Caliber. Shoppers of these earlier models will find hard surfaces, unappealingly textured plastic and questionable build quality. Compared to the accommodations in vehicles like the Mazda 3, the Caliber's furnishings were several steps behind. The only other notable Caliber change was for '09 when it received its available hard-drive-based music and navigation systems.

high-performance Dodge Caliber SRT-4 produced for 2008 and '09

The Dodge Caliber debuted in 2006 as a 2007 model. Initially, there were three regular trim levels available -- base SE, SXT and R/T. Although the current structure, which debuted for 2010, is quite different, the available feature content is mostly the same. Engine choice was quite different, however. At the bottom of the ladder was a 148-hp 1.8-liter inline-4, which came standard on the base Caliber and the SXT. It was only available with a five-speed manual. Those seeking more power and an automatic transmission should look for a Caliber with the 158-hp 2.0-liter four, which was equipped exclusively with a CVT. The R/T model was equipped with the current Rush trim's 2.4-liter inline-4. All-wheel drive was available on the R/T model until 2009.

There was a high-performance Caliber SRT-4 produced for 2008 and '09. It boasted a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder good for 285 hp and 265 pound-feet of torque, with a six-speed manual being the only available transmission. Aside from its big engine, it got 19-inch wheels, lowered suspension, upgraded brakes, a performance trip computer and sport seats. This may sound impressive, but it really wasn't. We found it underwhelming and overpriced compared to other affordable, high-horsepower hatchbacks, as well as burdened by excessive weight and an abundance of torque steer.

The Dodge Caliber's interior has been greatly improved from its horrible previous iteration

In road tests, our editors have found the Dodge Caliber to be an adequate daily driver, though not much more than that. Its ride and handling just aren't as refined as its many competitors. The base engine in particular is coarse and feels underpowered, while the optional CVT isn't properly programmed to match the 2.0-liter engine's power band. Despite its ample horsepower, the 2.4-liter is far from brisk as well.

The Caliber's interior has been greatly improved from its horrible previous iteration. The design is more appealing, materials are better and there are soft-touch materials in areas frequently encountered by elbows. Still, the cabin quality is far from class-leading. On the upside, there is an abundance of space for people and their stuff in the Caliber, as its hatchback design is quite versatile.

The Dodge Caliber comes in five so-called "lifestyle" trim levels

Built on a global platform also used for the Jeep Compass SUV and midsize Dodge Avenger sedan, the tall-bodied Dodge Caliber comes only as a compact hatchback/wagon. The rear seats fold in a 60/40 split, increasing cargo space to a maximum of 48 cubic feet. The front passenger seat can fold forward to make room for longer items. The Caliber has decent headroom and legroom in the front and back, but it is still a small car built to a price, so don't expect luxurious accommodations.

The Caliber comes in five so-called "lifestyle" trim levels -- Express, Mainstreet, Uptown, Heat and Rush. A 2.0-liter 158-horsepower four-cylinder is standard on all but the Rush, which gets a 2.4-liter 172-hp inline-4. This engine is optional on the Uptown. A five-speed manual and continuously variable transmission (CVT) are available.

The base Express isn't as bare bones as you'd think, boasting full power accessories, cruise control, Bluetooth, USB audio jack and satellite radio. The Mainstreet adds bigger wheels and a comfort-tuned suspension, while the Uptown gets a variety of luxury items. The Heat is a sport-tuned model, with suspension, brakes and wheel upgrades. These are also added to the Caliber Rush, which gets several of the Uptown's extra luxury items.
